Leadership & Governance
EduRise is guided by strong governance, ethical leadership and a commitment to transparency and accountability in everything we do.
Introduction
How EduRise is governed, and why that matters to everyone we serve.
EduRise is an independent UK-registered non-profit organisation with a dual commitment: to strengthen education, leadership and communities within the United Kingdom, and to extend that work to fragile, conflict-affected and underserved contexts internationally. The United Kingdom is not simply where we are registered — it is one of the communities we actively serve. Our international work reflects the same commitment, directed towards places where educational opportunities and leadership development are most needed.
Good governance is what makes this work possible. It is not a bureaucratic requirement — it is the foundation of responsible leadership. Strong governance means that decisions are made with care, resources are used ethically and the organisation remains true to its mission. It builds the trust that allows EduRise to work effectively with communities, educators, partners, supporters, volunteers, donors, educational institutions and public stakeholders alike.
Accountability matters because the people and communities EduRise serves deserve to know that the organisation is led with integrity. Transparency matters because trust is earned through openness, not assumed. Responsible stewardship matters because every resource entrusted to EduRise carries a responsibility to use it well.
This page provides a public overview of how EduRise is governed — how leadership and governance work together, how responsibilities are distributed, how decisions are made and how the organisation remains accountable to its mission, its values and the people and communities it exists to serve.
Our Governance Philosophy
The principles that guide how we lead and make decisions.
EduRise approaches governance not as a compliance exercise, but as an expression of its values. We believe that how an organisation is governed is as important as what it does. Our governance framework is built on five core principles:
Integrity
Every decision is guided by honesty, ethical conduct and a commitment to doing what is right — not merely what is convenient.
Transparency
We communicate openly about our work, our finances and our governance — providing stakeholders with the information they need to hold us to account.
Accountability
Leadership is answerable to the Board, and the Board is answerable to our mission, our beneficiaries and our wider stakeholders.
Independence
Governance decisions are made free from undue external influence, ensuring that EduRise remains mission-driven and impartial.
Continuous Improvement
We regularly review our governance practices, learn from experience and adapt to ensure we remain effective and fit for purpose.
Leadership Structure
How governance and management work together at EduRise.
EduRise operates through a clear and deliberate separation between governance and management. This distinction is central to how we maintain accountability and ensure that strategic oversight remains independent from day-to-day operations.
The Board
The Board holds ultimate responsibility for the governance of EduRise. It sets the strategic direction, ensures the organisation remains true to its mission and values, and provides independent oversight of management. The Board is collectively accountable for the long-term health and integrity of the organisation.
Leadership & Management
Operational leadership is responsible for implementing the strategy approved by the Board, managing programmes and partnerships, and ensuring that EduRise delivers on its commitments. Leadership reports to the Board and is accountable for performance, financial stewardship and organisational conduct.
This two-tier structure ensures that no single individual holds unchecked authority, and that governance decisions are made collectively, with appropriate scrutiny and deliberation.
Roles & Responsibilities
A clear distinction between governance and operational management.
Understanding who is responsible for what is essential to good governance. The following outlines the principal responsibilities at each level of the organisation:
Sets and safeguards the mission, vision and values of EduRise. Approves strategic plans and major organisational decisions. Ensures legal compliance and financial probity. Appoints and oversees senior leadership. Manages risk at a governance level.
Translates Board-approved strategy into operational plans and programmes. Manages staff, volunteers and partners. Oversees day-to-day financial management. Represents EduRise externally and builds institutional relationships.
Delivers programmes and projects in line with agreed plans. Manages resources responsibly. Reports on progress, impact and challenges. Ensures safeguarding, data protection and ethical standards are upheld in all activities.
Where appropriate, EduRise engages independent advisers, auditors or reviewers to provide external scrutiny of governance, financial management and programme quality. This supports continuous improvement and public accountability.
Accountability & Transparency
Our commitment to responsible, open and ethical leadership.
EduRise is committed to being an open and accountable organisation. We recognise that accountability is not simply about reporting — it is about building genuine trust with the communities we serve, the donors who support us and the partners who work alongside us.
Our accountability commitments include:
EduRise publishes information about its work, programmes and impact through its website and communications. We are committed to ensuring that those who support us, work with us or benefit from our programmes can access meaningful information about how we operate and what we achieve.
Decision-Making
How significant decisions are made through appropriate governance processes.
EduRise operates a structured approach to decision-making that reflects the significance and nature of each decision. Not all decisions require Board involvement — but all significant decisions follow a clear and deliberate process.
Strategic Decisions
Major strategic choices — including new programme areas, significant partnerships, organisational restructuring and long-term plans — are made by the Board following appropriate deliberation and consultation.
Operational Decisions
Day-to-day operational decisions are delegated to leadership and management within a framework of policies and procedures approved by the Board. Clear boundaries define what requires escalation.
Financial Decisions
Financial decisions are governed by a clear authorisation framework. Expenditure above defined thresholds requires Board approval. All financial decisions are subject to appropriate oversight and audit.
EduRise does not disclose the internal details of its governance procedures. However, we are committed to ensuring that all significant decisions are made through appropriate processes, with proper scrutiny and in the best interests of the organisation and those it serves.
Risk & Compliance
Managing risk responsibly and operating within the law.
EduRise takes its legal and ethical obligations seriously. We operate within the requirements of UK charity and company law, and we maintain robust policies and procedures to manage risk across all areas of our work.
Risk Management
The Board regularly reviews the organisation's risk register and ensures that appropriate controls are in place to manage identified risks.
Legal Compliance
EduRise complies with all applicable UK laws and regulations, including those governing non-profit organisations, employment, data protection and safeguarding.
Safeguarding
We maintain a robust safeguarding policy and ensure that all staff, volunteers and partners understand and uphold their safeguarding responsibilities.
Data Protection
EduRise complies with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We handle personal data responsibly and with respect for individual privacy.
Financial Responsibility
All funds are managed in accordance with our financial policies. We are committed to the responsible stewardship of donor and grant resources.
Ethical Conduct
EduRise expects the highest standards of ethical conduct from all those who represent the organisation, whether as staff, volunteers or partners.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
How EduRise works collaboratively with communities, partners and the public.
EduRise does not work in isolation. Our mission is inherently collaborative, and our governance framework reflects the importance of meaningful engagement with the communities, institutions and individuals who are central to our work.
We engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including:
Communities
The people and communities we serve are at the centre of everything we do. We listen, learn and adapt based on their needs and experiences.
Donors & Funders
We maintain open and honest relationships with those who support our work financially, providing regular updates on how resources are used and what impact they achieve.
Partners
We work with a range of civil society, academic and institutional partners. These relationships are built on mutual respect, shared values and clear agreements.
Educational Institutions
We collaborate with universities, schools and training organisations to develop and deliver high-quality educational programmes and research.
Public Stakeholders
EduRise is committed to being a responsible public actor. We engage with government, regulatory bodies and the wider public in a spirit of openness and accountability.
We believe that strong stakeholder relationships are not just good practice — they are essential to the credibility, relevance and long-term impact of our work.
